Housekeeping for the Strong in Spirit: 5 Reliable Ways to Make Your Home Less Cluttered
Content:
If the room is spacious and bright, then it is thought and breathed easier. But sooner or later many things accumulate in any home, which occupy almost all the free space. It seems to many that in such conditions, making a house less cluttered is a science, but in fact it’s enough to follow 5 simple rules recommended by experienced housewives.
Proper furniture placement
There is a misconception that furniture needs to be placed along the walls - they say, then the room seems more spacious. However, to avoid the effect of clutter at home, it is worth using the principle of zoning. It involves the creation of a kind of "islands" on which those elements of furniture that can be used at the same time or have a similar purpose, are located close to each other, and do not disperse around the room.
It is important to remember the fundamental principle - it is impossible to put furniture so that it blocks the window. Natural daylight should penetrate into the room and freely illuminate it, since this creates the illusion of spaciousness and, by the way, is necessary for health.
Organized storage
Most often, a house looks cluttered not because of an excess of things, but because of their improper storage.
You can arrange objects more compactly as follows:
- Packaging from household appliances - until the warranty expires, it is not worth throwing out boxes even for the sake of cleanliness and comfort in the house. To save space, they can be laid out and hidden - for example, in a closet.
- Tools, things for hobbies and creativity, children's toys - all this is conveniently stored in containers on the shelf. It is best to buy opaque containers so that their contents are not conspicuous.
- Clothing and shoes - the ideal solution would be to break the wardrobe into seasons and evacuate things. After pumping air out of the bag, its volume will decrease by 3-5 times. By the way, you can do the same with pillows and blankets. As for shoes, it is best to store them on high vertical racks - firstly, the material will not be deformed, and secondly, to place a shelf on which the shoes of all family members fit, you will need a tiny piece of a hallway 30 × 30 in size cm.
The habit of putting things in place
You can make a house less cluttered if every thing is returned to its place, moreover, in the form in which it will be suitable for subsequent use. For example, a cup of tea should not be left on a computer table - it must be washed immediately and put in a cabinet. The same rule applies to clothes - after changing clothes, those items that should be washed should be taken to the laundry basket, and the rest should be hung in the closet.
Regular mopping
At least once a year, and even better - once every three or four months you need to conduct an audit at home and get rid of unnecessary things.
More than others clutter up space:
- Wardrobe items that are out of fashion or worn out. In order not to throw away their beloved trousers, sweaters and dresses, people console themselves with the thought that they will still wear them when they go to the forest, to a picnic or to the country to plant potatoes. In fact, this will never happen - the trash will simply accumulate and take up space in the closet.
- Unused furniture.Armchairs on which not even a cat sits, half-empty cabinets and bookshelves, lacy chairs inherited from my grandmother and exiled to the corner - all this cannot be called either a part of the interior, or functional furniture. If you send these things to landfill or sell, about a quarter of the space will be freed up.
- Souvenirs and gifts not too expensive for the heart. A million different trinkets that do not fit into the design of the house, but still lie on the shelves, collecting dust - this is what you need to throw out without a shadow of regret.
- Household items that have lost their original appearance. Dishes with chipped edges, slippers soaked by a puppy, kitchen towels with gray-brown-raspberry stains, shabby cushions and the like, our subconscious mind perceives as rubbish, and not as things needed in the household. Accordingly, the effect of cluttering the house with all kinds of junk is created. A good solution is to land all this.
- Broken technique. If some device has stopped working and the owners of the house for the third month in a row have not been able to find the time to repair it on their own or return for repair, it means that they can easily do without it further. There is no point in “just in case” storing at home burnt out mixers and curling irons, table lamps with broken shades, and inoperative headphones.
- Waste paper. This capacious word combines old magazines and newspapers, unnecessary books, beautiful boxes that are a pity to throw out, last year’s, last year’s and even more ancient calendars, notepads with outdated information.
Only thoughtful shopping
Before you go to the cash register with one or another thing (it doesn’t matter if it is a blanket, a teapot or a toy for a dog), you need to think seven times whether it is really necessary. If her absence does not affect the quality of life of households, it is better to leave her on a shelf. The same is worth doing in the case when no one in the family feels the need for a particular subject, but now there is a good discount on it. The red price tag is not a reason to purchase anything. So the house will not be cluttered with unnecessary trash.
After they manage to put things in order, having got rid of everything that was superfluous, the residents of the house will have to get used to the new way. At first, this will turn out to be difficult, and clutter can return after a few months. However, do not give up - each time in the home there will be less and less unnecessary items and more and more free space.
