How to remove stains from hard water from different surfaces in two counts?
Content:
Removing stains from hard water is often easy. They are cleaned from hard surfaces with a damp cloth, from clothes - with a cloth soaked in alcohol. In difficult cases, it is necessary to wash the item again, softening the water with soda, Calgon or other means. Worst of all contaminants are removed from leather products - only wax treatment will help here.
When choosing one or another way of dealing with stains, it is important to consider the type of material. It is better to get rid of contaminants immediately, until the salts have been eaten and spoiled the product irrevocably.
Hard water stains - what is it?
Hard water is called water with a large amount of calcium and magnesium salts. Such boiling water leaves limescale, damages hair and skin, leaves stains on clothes and surfaces after wet cleaning.
Hardness is measured in milligram equivalents per liter:
- at 4 mEq / l or less, water is considered soft;
- from 4 to 8 mEq / l - medium hardness;
- from 8 to 12 mEq / l - hard;
- over 12 mEq / l - especially stiff.
The appearance of water stains is explained very simply: the liquid component evaporates, and the hardness salts remain on the surface and look like spots with a white halo. In some cases, traces of water may be yellowish and gray. The shade indicates the presence of other impurities: rust, iron salts, oils and others.
If you washed the item for the first time, stains and sagging may be a sign of poor-quality paint. Unfortunately, it is impossible to restore the product in this case. To save the situation will help only re-staining. And you can leave it as it is and hope that over time the color launders evenly.
How to remove stains?
First of all, the amount of pollution should be taken into account. If the stains from hard water are large, bright and there are a lot of them, it is better to wash the product again. But this time in the water you need to add baking soda or soda ash (2 teaspoons or 1 teaspoon to 3 liters of water, respectively). When washing clothes in a washing machine, Calgon will help soften the water. Also, many modern powders contain softeners. With hard water, the detergent is put more, and then there are no stains on the clothes.
With slight contamination, white spots can be removed pointwise. The choice of method and means for cleaning the product should be made taking into account the type of material.
Most modern detergents do well with stains from hard water. Alcohol, acids, alkalis not only remove salts, but also prevent their appearance. Typically, such contaminants appear if the product is washed only with water, without the use of chemistry, and moisture drops do not wipe.
With clothes
Tissues most often come in contact with water and absorb all impurities from it. On light matter, spots can be invisible, but on bright and dark matter they are always striking. The following tools will help to remove them:
- Lemon juice. Squeeze a teaspoon of lemon juice, soak a cotton wool with it and remove the stain in a quick circular motion. The method is great for cleaning jackets, down jackets, clothes from Bologna.
- Alcohol. Dilute medical alcohol 1 to 3 with water and wipe the place of contamination. You can use wet alcohol wipes.
- Saline solution. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of table salt in a glass of water. Wet the stain and then wipe with a dry rag. The product is especially good at cleansing silk fabrics.
- Iron and damp cloth. To remove traces of hard water from fleecy fabrics (coats, sweaters), iron the contaminated surface with an iron through a wet cloth.After drying, go through this place with a clothes brush.
With leather products
To remove a stain of hard water from a shoe or bag, you need to apply a cream or skin impregnation on the surface. After waiting 20 minutes, the product must be polished with a flannel cloth. You can also use a special foam cleanser for leather, nubuck and suede. To prevent the appearance of such contaminants, products must be treated with an impregnation that repels water, dust and dirt.
Off the floor
Stains from hard water that appear on the laminate and other floor coverings can be removed when washing the floor with the addition of detergent. After this, wipe the surface dry.
If the stain is single and formed on the laminate, it can be easily removed using a silicone or wax based polish. The place of pollution is rubbed and then polished.
From glass and tile
It is best with stains from hard water to cope with special sprays for washing windows. Also remove the dirt will help a regular microfiber cloth. You must first wet it and wipe the glass or tile.
If no special means were found, use a folk recipe: add a tablespoon of ammonia in 200 ml of water and wipe off the dirt with a damp cloth. Use baking soda and a sponge to remove stubborn stains.
With furniture
Whitish stains on furniture can be removed in several ways. Wipe the product with the following products:
- flour and a damp cloth;
- sifted ash with the addition of 3-5 drops of vegetable oil;
- alcohol.
After cleaning, the surface must be polished with a polish. Alternatively, you can rub the furniture with a napkin with a few drops of vegetable oil.
With car
It is quite difficult to remove stains from hard water from the car. It is better not to let them form - after washing, immediately wipe the surface with a dry cloth. If the water is still dry, avoid using hard brushes and aggressive products. Dampen a soft cloth with a solution of white vinegar and wipe the vehicle without force. Rinse and then apply polish.
To permanently reduce water hardness and prevent stains on products, it is recommended to install a filter. It will retain salts and purify water from other harmful impurities.
Stains from hard water spoil the view, but, as a rule, are eliminated quickly and easily. Use the above tools and methods according to the type of material. And so that the pollution does not appear again, it is recommended to use water softeners or install a filter to cleanse hardness salts.
I add a couple of tablespoons of soda ash to the washing powder to the washing powder - this is the same Calgon - cheap and cheerful, as they say ...
