We remove plasticine from clothes correctly: how, what, why?

To remove clay, a thing needs to be frozen, wiped with oil and filled with ammonia. Many housewives who did not directly encounter stains from plasticine have such fragmentary advice in their memory. We will streamline the ways to wash off traces of children's creativity and we will use them correctly.
One version of the invention of plasticine says that it was originally created as a means of removing contaminants from wallpaper. It is interesting that today this material, widely used in children's creativity, makes moms think about how to remove plasticine and spots remaining from itself. Molded from plasticine and small children, and preschool children, and schoolchildren.
Often after these activities, the child’s clothes are “decorated” with colorful dots, moreover, similar specks can appear on other clothes that hung near the desktop: father’s trousers or mother’s skirt. Also, quite often, mothers have to remove plasticine stains from school trousers, because putting plasticine in a visual arts lesson on a chair is a sacred thing for a desk partner.
General recommendations for removing plasticine from clothing
Plasticine today is very different: glowing in the dark, floating on the surface of the water, in the form of balls, super soft, like a chewing gum, shimmering and gurgling ... And, unfortunately, all this sticks to the fabric perfectly.
To clean the surface, you will first have to remove the clay itself, and then traces of it: color and oil stains. They are formed due to the presence in the mass for sculpting animal fats or petroleum jelly and dyes, without which it would be impossible to achieve such a variety of colors. Therefore, actions that will help remove plasticine from clothing will take place in three stages:
- We clean the mass for modeling.
- We remove the stains.
- We erase the thing.
Let us consider in more detail the first two stages, or rather the means that will help remove the remnants of the mass for sculpting from clothes. And washing in this case should take place in the usual mode, suitable for a particular thing. When washing a white blouse or linen, bleach can be added to enhance the effect. If, after all the measures taken, traces of plasticine are still visible, soak the white cloth with bleach or treat the dirty area with hydrogen peroxide. Soak colored items with a stain remover according to the instructions.
Tip: The cleaning option depends on the type of fabric. For example, isopropyl or ammonia cannot be used for synthetics. Before you remove the stain with a tool that is not specifically intended for this, try its action in an inconspicuous place.
We clean the mass for modeling
Before you completely remove the clay from clothing, you should peel it off the surface. If it is tough enough, then this will not be difficult. You can remove the pieces with a spatula from the modeling kit, the blunt edge of the scissors, or the opposite side of the knife tip. And if you are dealing with a soft, viscous mass, you will have to use popular wisdom.
- Put the thing with which you want to remove the plasticine in a plastic bag.
- Put the bag of clothes in the freezer. You need to keep it there until the plasticine hardens. The time depends on the thickness of the layer and, as a rule, is 30 minutes.
- Take out the stained thing from the freezer and remove the clay with the same tools that used to remove it for the first time, before freezing. They have been described above.
After it was possible to remove plasticine to the maximum, the thing will not be clean.He will remain a greasy colored spot, formed from a thin layer of plasticine, which is able to literally akin to the surface of the fabric. To wash it, we will use the methods described below.
Remove stains
As mentioned above, plasticine contains fat. Therefore, to dissolve it, an alkali is required, as many people remember from the school chemistry course. In order to wash plasticine stains, we will use one of the following types of alkali:
- laundry soap;
- baking soda;
- dishwashing liquid.
- Prepare a solution that will help clean the stain by dissolving in the water chips of laundry soap or dishwashing detergent. Prepare a thick slurry from soda by adding quite a bit of water.
- Apply cleaning solution to contamination. Leave on for 5-7 minutes.
- Rub the stain vigorously to wipe the clay.
You can also wash traces of the mass for sculpting with ammonia or isopropyl alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol is part of the window cleaner. However, this method is applicable for cleaning trousers, skirts and other things from natural materials, for example, from denim. Synthetic clothing cannot be cleaned in this way.
- Apply ammonia or window cleaner to contaminate so that it soaks.
- Leave for half an hour.
- Over time, rub the stain vigorously to clean the fabric.
In addition to using alkali, to wash traces of plasticine, you can influence it with vegetable oil. As they say, like is cleared by like. True, after such a treatment, vegetable oil will have to be washed off the fabric. For this:
- Apply vegetable oil to a cotton pad.
- Rub the stain by changing several discs until the stain disappears.
- Wash the vegetable oil by soaking the garment in a soapy solution or in a solution of water and dishwashing detergent.
There are many ways to clear plasticine from clothes. Choose what is more convenient and do not forget about the type of fabric. And to protect clothes from possible plasticine contamination during sculpting, use a special board, arm ruffles and an apron.
