How to sew a hole on a jacket so that the seam is not visible?
Content:
If the jacket breaks in a conspicuous place, it seems that nothing will save her. But what if you do not want to throw away your favorite thing? Do not despair and do not rush to part with it. In many cases, a torn jacket can be repaired; you can even make it so that no one will notice the damage site. Based on the location and size of the hole, it is necessary to choose a repair method.
If the thing is torn at the seam
Perhaps this is the easiest option, to cope with which is not difficult. To ensure that the seam is not visible, be sure to select the threads that are suitable for the color and quality of your jacket. If there is a lining on it, before starting work, you will have to undo the lining seam in the place where it will be easiest to get to the damage.
The hole can be sewn with a sewing machine or manually by sewing a “back needle” stitch. Try to sew as evenly as possible: the new line should be a continuation of the existing one. To make the seam more durable, start it a couple of centimeters before the hole and finish a few centimeters after. When the work is completed, do not forget to sew the lining again.
If you already have certain skills, then the jacket can be sewn with a blind stitch. To do this, you do not have to tear off the lining. At the beginning of the line, stick the needle from the wrong side so that the bundle remains inside. Then, from the outside, make parallel stitches so that the distance between them is the same. At the end of the stitch, it remains to fasten the thread with a loop stitch and hide it with a needle inside the product.
What to do in more complex cases?
Unfortunately, the jacket does not always tear strictly at the seam. In this case, returning it to its proper form is much more difficult. If you sew a hole in the usual way, even very carefully, the seam will still be noticeable.
You will need a non-woven adhesive backing. It is sold in haberdashery stores in the form of ribbons and shreds. The size of the tape (or patch) should be slightly larger than the hole. If the threads got out at the cut site, carefully cut them so that there is no fringe. Then, under the wrong side, put the non-woven fabric with the adhesive side to the fabric and carefully press it so that there are no wrinkles and swelling. Gently join the torn edges without overlapping. Cover the hole with gauze from above and iron it thoroughly.
Tip
This method is not suitable for any fabric. It will be easiest to seal a polyester jacket. But it is unlikely that it will be possible to seal the cloth or drape.
If the repair kit was included with the jacket, you can use the patch from it. As a rule, very small pieces of material are placed in such sets. Therefore, this method is suitable for small holes. It is better to use powdered hot melt adhesive for clothes. Lay the jacket on a flat surface and lay the patch directly under the hole. Use a small spoon to spread the glue over the patch. Then, through gauze or cloth, iron the jacket over the entire patch area.
How to decorate the place of damage?
In sewing stores you can easily find emblems, stickers, ribbons and other decorative elements of a wide variety of subjects. But they have a significant drawback: they are not always relevant. Such elements will look more harmoniously on the chest and sleeves.
- Decorative patch. Pick a suitable patch and sweep it to the jacket so that it closes the hole. Then you just have to sew it or sew it with a blind stitch.
- Leather or denim patches in the form of geometric shapes will look harmonious and interesting on the jacket.
- Thermal sticker for fabric. To apply it, attach a sticker to the jacket, cover with a cloth and iron. If such a sticker looks too lonely, on the other hand, you can stick another element of the same subject.
- A cut or small hole in a children's or sports jacket can be sewn up using reflective tape. It is better to sew it not on one section, but in a circle around the sleeve or the whole jacket.
- A straight hole can be decorated with a short zipper sewn along the cut line.
These methods will help not only solve the problem of a torn jacket, but also make the thing more interesting and even exclusive.
To sew up the jacket so that it is not visible, take the jacket to the atelier, they will carefully sew it, and it costs not so much money. In any case, it will be better than sewing some patches and tags.
It will be expensive. Now everything is expensive.
