Which glue to choose and how to prepare the base?

Before proceeding with the decoration, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the walls of dirt and dust, and then apply two layers of high-quality primer. This approach will allow you to fasten the gypsum board sheets to the wall as well as possible.

Preparation takes place in two stages.

1. The wall is cleaned and then the first primer is applied. It dries in about 24 hours.
2. Now you need to apply a second coat. Here the mixture is not diluted. It also dries for about 24 hours.

Mounting glue

It is such glue for drywall that is used most often. When using this product, it is very important to observe the technology of its preparation - many have problems with this. If the glue is not prepared correctly, the end result may disappoint you, so the instructions must be read very carefully.

Such glue is applied using the most ordinary spatula in a circular motion. The distance between these strokes should be about 20 centimeters. It is necessary to ensure that the distance is not more than 30 cm and less than 15, this is very important. It is possible to redo the work, that is, otherwise fix the sheets within 10 minutes, then the glue will seize and it will be impossible to do this.

Mastic

This product contains lime and glue. Mastic is also often used to fasten drywall sheets with walls. First, glue needs to be diluted with water in the right proportions and left for about 15 hours to get a mixture of the correct consistency. It is during this time that the granules swell. Previously, there is no point in using glue, since it will not be strong enough. After 15 hours, lime is added to the glue, which was previously diluted in water, having obtained a mixture of a sufficiently liquid consistency. In order to achieve it, you need to heat the mixture in a steam bath. At the very end, gypsum is added. The setting time of such a mixture is approximately 40-50 minutes.

The adhesive mixture can also be prepared on the basis of sawdust. To do this, mix the sawdust and gypsum in a ratio of 1 to 4. Then add the glue solution. Such mastic is grabbed in about one hour. If the consistency is slightly thinner than usual, then the setting time may increase, but slightly.

Specialty Adhesive

In any large hardware store you can find specialized glue for drywall. The usual such product is sold in small cylinders of 750 milliliters. Such glue, as a rule, is applied around the entire perimeter of the sheet, and then along the remaining sections with stripes. The distance between these bands should be about 20 centimeters. Too often they should not be located, as well as too far.Such glue sets very quickly, which, of course, is convenient for specialists.

Tip

Do not use such glue for walls where there is a large difference in height. In such cases, it is better to give preference to other means.

Polyurethane foam

For the sticker of drywall on the walls, sometimes use mounting foam. To carry out the work as efficiently as possible, you must follow the instructions.

1. On the surface of each sheet of drywall, you need to make 9 holes, distributing them evenly.
2. Around each of them make more holes (at a distance of about 4 centimeters). At the same time, the diameter of the drill should not be more than five millimeters, this is a very important nuance.
3. Glue small pieces of foam rubber at a distance of about 10 centimeters from the holes, and then fasten the sheets to the wall with screws.
4. Foam is poured into additional holes, so that the sheets hold better on the wall. It dries quickly enough.

After these works are carried out, the screws are recessed into the base.

Plasterboard sheets are ideal if you need to align the walls with large potholes. Of course, if you have experience, then you can use putty for this, but it will take much more time. Drywall is the most versatile tool for high-quality and quick repairs.

Installation instructions

It should be noted that the installation of drywall with glue does not require special skills and knowledge, anyone can handle this procedure. If a thick mixture is used, then it must be applied very carefully in a circular motion, covering the entire area. In order to ensure maximum grip, it is necessary to tap the plates with the help of wooden slats. At this stage, you should be very careful, since any awkward movement can violate the integrity of the sheet and it will no longer be possible to use it.

Specialized adhesive for drywall is used a little differently, since its consistency is more liquid. It is applied around the perimeter of the sheet, and then a little more on the surface. This method allows you to spend significantly less effort and time, and this is its advantage.

Drywall decoration can be used not only for walls, but also for ceilings. However, in the second case, it will not be possible to do without special equipment: the sheets are attached to the ceiling with a lift, and it holds them until the glue completely dries. Most often, it is not possible to do this on their own; the services of professionals are required. For the ceiling, it is recommended to use the most light and thin gypsum board, as heavy it will be almost impossible to fasten with high quality. In this case, it is desirable to install the sheets on a pre-prepared frame, so that the structure is solid. The question may arise: what glue to choose for ceilings? In this case, you should not save and try to do everything as soon as possible. Sheets that were poorly fixed may eventually fall off, and this will not lead to anything good.
