According to experienced plant growers, a representative of the flora, who received the unspoken name of “female happiness”, will not be able to survive in a room with a negative and hostile atmosphere. Therefore, do not expect that one of his appearance will solve family problems.
Spathiphyllum - a description of the flower and its popular varieties
The flower is very easy to distinguish from other plantations grown at home. It has no stem; saturated green leaves with a well-visible median vein grow directly from the ground. The flower is represented by an ears surrounded by a white veil, less often with green patches. During flowering, it gradually turns green, acquiring a uniform appearance.
Potted houses most often grow one of the following types of spathiphyllum:
- Abundantly flowering. A low plant with cream flowers exuding a very delicate aroma. The ear is much smaller than the bedspread. It blooms from March to October, which was the reason for this name.
- Wallis. Smaller than the previous member of the family. The bedspreads are rather narrow, elongated and pointed.
- Cannulate. Against the backdrop of a snow-white coverlet, a yellow-green ear is located. Leaves of saturated color, large, similar to cannons. It has a very pronounced aroma.
- Charming. It is distinguished by very large leaves, the flowers are located on long green roots, the coverlet is a bit of an irregular shape and resembles moisture.
- Spoon-shaped. It can reach one meter in height. It blooms with a snow-white flower with the same veil.
Each species has its own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, but leaving in all cases is approximately the same and does not cause trouble.
The basics of caring for female happiness at home
The most stressful period for a flower and its owner are the first days of caring for female happiness. Do not transplant the plant immediately after it appears in the house. It is better to wait at least three weeks, but if the plant blooms, you will have to wait until the end of the process. The first days, a copy must be protected from direct sunlight. Watering is introduced immediately, spraying - in a day.
To properly care for spathiphyllum, it is necessary to provide him with optimal conditions of detention:
- Light and temperature. Feminine happiness loves light, but not direct, but diffused. Penumbra is also well tolerated by them, direct sunlight can be destructive, a dense shadow often leads to a modification of the leaves. In the colder months, spathiphyllum will feel great at 16ºС, in the warm season, an optimum of 20-22ºС will be optimal. At home, it is difficult to avoid drafts during ventilation, so it is better not to keep the pot on a windowsill.
- Watering and spraying. The soil is moistened as it dries, the lump should not be too wet. The abundance of moisture can provoke the cessation of flowering.Mixing the soil for the flower, you need to take care of good drainage in the form of expanded clay or brick, thermally treated. Spraying can be carried out up to two times a day. If at the same time the leaves look drooping, then next to the hill you need to put a container of water.
Tip: Spathiphyllum is not recommended to be watered in the traditional way, this often leads to a gradual decay of the leaves. It is better to pour liquid directly on the pallet.
- Top dressing. If the plant refuses to bloom at home, this may indicate a lack of nutrients. Complex mineral fertilizers of low concentration should be administered once a week. During dormancy, the frequency is reduced to once a month. Fertilizers need to be applied only after irrigation.
During the flowering period, the plant must be taken care of especially carefully. It is recommended to monitor the ears and timely remove inflorescences that have lost their attractive appearance. The elimination of colors covered with brown spots will provoke a rapid renewal of the green pet and the appearance of new decorative elements.
Transplantation and reproduction of spathiphyllum
The procedure for the reproduction of female happiness at home is carried out by dividing the rhizome. This is best done in the spring, before the flowering period begins. Spathiphyllum is removed from the pot, after which the root part is divided into several parts.
Mechanical damage to the roots can lead to the death of the plant, so you need to act very carefully. The plots are transplanted into the soil with a special composition: one part of sand, one part of turf land, two parts of leafy land and two parts of peat. For enrichment, crumbs of red brick or charcoal are often used.
A transplant of female happiness at home should be carried out annually in the spring. In this case, the flowerpot is taken a little larger in size so that the roots are not crowded. The roots of the flower grow in the horizontal plane, so the new capacity should be low, but wide. In a very large pot, spathiphyllum will not grow.
Before placing the plant in a new soil, the soil must be treated with a pink solution of potassium permanganate. After this, the plant needs to be covered with transparent material for several days, so it will take root more quickly. Ventilate the seedling every day.
Problems with growing spathiphyllum rarely occur, most often due to violation of the conditions of detention. If the pet begins to lose its attractive appearance, you need to make sure the care is correct and make the necessary changes.
