Ingredients
There are many recipes for home bath bombs. You can use ready-made or invent your own.
The composition usually includes the following 5 components:
- The basis - baking soda and citric acid in a ratio of 2 to 1. When in contact with water, they give a chemical reaction of neutralization of alkali, which is accompanied by the release of carbon dioxide. It is thanks to these components that the bath bombs bubble.
- Moisturizing components: olive, almond, sea-buckthorn, coconut oil, as well as wheat germ oil, shea butter, cocoa and macadamia. Any of these oils cares for the skin, nourishes it and moisturizes.
- Dyes. For coloring, you can use liquid and powder food colors, ground colored sea salt.
- Flavors: food flavors, cosmetic fragrances, essential oils. The latter additionally play the role of a healing component. For example, lavender and sage oils soothe, peppermint and citrus - invigorate.
- Useful supplements: dry cream, sea salt, clay. Favorably affect the skin and saturate it with useful elements.
How to decorate a bomb? For the decor, dried herbs flowers, coffee grains, sea salt, sparkles, rose petals are used. Jewelry is placed at the bottom of the molds or tamped in the middle of the mixture.
Nuances to Know
Despite the simplicity of preparing bombs for the bath, many beginners do not succeed. All the subtleties that you need to know are to blame:
- Do not overdo it with water! Often you can hear advice to bring the powder mass to a state of wet or wet sand. This is a big mistake. Water must be added at least, otherwise a reaction will begin, after which the bomb will increase in size, disintegrate and foam poorly. If aqueous flavors and oils are used, you do not need to add another liquid at all. The mass should be practically dry.
- Mix the mixture with gloved hands. It is quite difficult to break all the lumps with a spoon and rub the dye into the dry mixture. Hands do it much more productively and faster.
- Take a large bowl. The composition should occupy the third part of the plate, otherwise during mixing it will spill out over the edges.
- Tamp carefully. It is necessary to pour the powder in small portions, each well pressed with a spoon. Then the bomb will turn out to be tight and will not fall apart when you take it out of the mold.
- To obtain a spherical shape, pour the mixture into halves with a slide. Then force them against each other. Excess powder will spill out.So the halves are fastened most securely. Do not use water for bonding.
- Dry the bombs in vivo. No need to leave them in molds. This is a common mistake. So that the moisture evaporates, and the form does not deteriorate, you need to lay out the bombs on a film in a dry room. For example, in the kitchen near the stove.
- Store them in a dry place wrapped in cling film. Balls can even react to an excess of moisture in the air. They should never be stored in the bathroom. Place them in a dry place, pre-wrapping with cling film. In this form, they can lie and not spoil for months.
How to make the bomb foam abundantly? To obtain a stable foam in the composition, you can add cocosulfate (dry shampoo), Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, foaming agent "Fluffy foam". You need to look for funds in specialized stores for the manufacture of cosmetics. They are added strictly according to the instructions, since they are quite harmful to the skin in case of an overdose. It is also important to wear a respirator when adding blowing agents to prevent volatile substances from entering the respiratory tract.
Step-by-step instruction
At home, bath bombs are made according to the same pattern. Step-by-step instruction:
- Add citric acid, baking soda, and other dry ingredients in the recipe to the bowl. Mix everything thoroughly, breaking the lumps.
- Now it’s the turn of the liquid components: oils, flavors and dye. Drip them on top of the powder, and then mix until a homogeneous consistency is obtained.
- If the mixture is completely dry, sprinkle it with water from a sprayer from a distance of 30–40 cm. At the same time, continuously shuffle it with a spoon to avoid waterlogging and, as a result, a chemical reaction.
- Fill the molds with the resulting mixture. Tamp well. To make a sphere-shaped bomb, connect 2 semicircular shapes to each other.
- Carefully remove the bomb from the mold, gently tapping the bottom and edges.
- Dry the bombs outdoors for 3-12 hours.
- You can take a fragrant bath!
What about the harm of bath bombs? The main ingredients, soda and lemon, are alkali and acid. In direct contact with the skin, they can cause irritation. But in a large bath, their concentrations are negligible and cannot cause significant harm.
Fears should be caused by essential oils. They can cause an allergic reaction, so they must be tested before use. Drop the ether on your wrist and follow the reaction for a day.
