The mystical properties of dried flowers: why can’t dry flowers be kept at home?

Allegations that dry flowers cannot be stored at home have no scientific justification. The arguments put forward by opponents of dried flowers are based solely on prejudices and dubious philosophical treatises. The only case when a bouquet of "dead" plants can cause harm to health is an allergy to dust. However, this problem is easily solved by placing the dried composition under glass.

Dried Flowers and Superstition

Due to many circumstances, our ancestors had false ideas about the world around them and found causal relationships where they did not actually exist. Dried flowers were associated with death, not only on the physical level, but also in a figurative sense. For example, the presence of such bouquets in the home was not welcomed for the following reasons:

  • As life has gone from plants, so it will go away from the owners of the house. They will begin to pursue illness and even accidents.
  • Dead energy emitted by dry flowers will affect the financial well-being of the family - unforeseen expenses will shake the budget. Material, but not monetary losses are also possible - death of livestock, crop failure.
  • Quarrels between households will lead at best to family troubles, and at worst - to divorce spouses.

If you critically comprehend this list, it becomes clear that there is nothing supernatural in it. People tend to get sick and conflict, regardless of whether they have dried plants in their home, and the reason for low yields is usually in adverse weather conditions.

Dry wormwood

Some paradoxes

In parallel with the opinion about the negative influence of dried flowers, there was (and still exists) the belief that they were able to protect the house from evil forces. In particular, wormwood was used for this purpose - “brooms” from dried shoots of this grass were hung at the entrance to the dwelling.

From the point of view of believers, a similar effect has a bouquet consecrated in the church on August 14, when the Maccabees brothers are traditionally commemorated for the deceased. It is collected from various herbs, but most often it is mint, oats, sunflowers, calendula, poppy heads and ears of oats. Getting into the house, he acts as a talisman.

The use of dried flowers in the home

However, not always and not everywhere dried flowers were associated with something mystical. In many countries they were used to create interior compositions. And in our time, the so-called eco-style suggests the presence in the house of bouquets of dried plants. It should be noted that the works of professional florists look amazing and do not cause negative associations.

In France, it was customary to keep dried sprigs of lavender in houses for flavoring the air. In the 15th century, a tradition appeared to decorate ladies' dresses and hats with dried flowers.

Dried St. John's wort

Medicinal herbs

The popularity of traditional medicine does not fade away, and many people prefer to be treated not with pills from the pharmacy, but with decoctions and infusions. Sometimes even they themselves procure medicinal plants, bringing them in whole armfuls from the forest or growing on personal plots.

It is clear that in a year it will not work to use up all the herbs dried in the harvesting season. But instead of throwing away the leftovers, they are left "in reserve". You should not do this for two reasons:

  • Firstly, over time, plants lose their strength (beneficial substances are destroyed by light, temperature and other factors).
  • Secondly, such herbs and roots are a favorite nesting place for moths.

These two reasons are enough to send last year's blanks to a garbage container.

By the way, some plants that are considered medicinal have a strong and pungent aroma, which is especially felt if dried. People who are sensitive to odors, after a long stay in the room where these herbs are stored, may experience headache, drowsiness, or, conversely, irritability. So a residential building is not the best place to store dried herbs and flowers.

Wilted flowers in a vase

Expired Bouquet

Sometimes the flowers dry on their own - because they are not destined to live in a vase for longer. Either out of laziness, or out of pity, some women are in no hurry to throw them away, leaving them to stand in the water. And they act so in vain, because dead plants begin to rot. Moisture contributes to this process, so two to three days later, the first symptoms of the decomposition of the stems are already noticeable - an unpleasant smell and clouds of midges circling around the room.

In this case, the inhabitants of the apartment will have to be bad, but for absolutely real, and not mystical reasons.

Thus, it turns out this: everyone decides whether to store dried flowers in the apartment or mercilessly throw away herbariums collected by children and designer bouquets presented by colleagues. However, it is reckless to believe that the cause of all the troubles is a dried plant, definitely not worth it. As well as hoping that with his disappearance from home, the existing problems will be resolved on their own.
