What can be done with the pieces of linoleum that remained after the repair?
Often, after covering the floors, apartment owners accumulate a lot of material that has not been used up, but it is a pity to throw it away. Such a problem does not arise if you know what can be done from the remnants of linoleum. Contrary to popular belief, it is not necessary to be limited only to the options for decorative crafts.
If desired, even those who do not have some outstanding skills in working with their own hands have the opportunity to build something really useful for the home. There are many options, you just need to choose the right one and think over how to implement it correctly.
Practical and functional solutions
When deciding what to make of linoleum residues, you need to be based on its physical and chemical properties. So, the canvas, which is covered with a layer of oil, combined with different resins and fillers, at home is often used in one of the following ways:
- Flooring. This only at first glance does not seem original. When it comes down to work and you have to assemble the floor mosaic literally in pieces, the result is more than impressive. The remains of different linoleum from the rooms and the corridor can be folded into a fancy pattern on the balcony or kitchen. In addition to the aesthetic appearance, this approach will ensure easy cleaning.
- Household needs. From scraps of material, excellent waterproofing pads are obtained. They are used when laying the roof, as soft fixatives when driving nails.
- Few people know that a small amount of linoleum can be used to make high-quality glue. Just put the finely chopped pieces in a can and fill them with acetone. The mass must be insisted for 13-15 hours, after which it is used for its intended purpose. The finished product, which is not inferior in its characteristics to the well-known Moment glue, will easily glue wood, metal, ceramics, porcelain.
Tip: Some craftsmen add pure chalk to a homemade glue from linoleum (1 part glue to 2 parts of crushed product). The resulting mixture can be used as a putty to cover cracks and crevices. And if you connect the components in equal proportions, you get a mastic, with which tiles are laid.
- Using a large piece of material, it is recommended to decorate the pipes. In almost any apartment you can find a pipe that spoils the whole decor with its appearance. If you carefully wrap it with linoleum, this will provide the element with not only an aesthetic appearance, but also additional protection against external influences. The material can be pre-sewn so that its surface decorates the original pattern. And such crafts are planted on the most ordinary paste.
It is not necessary to start implementing plans immediately after collecting the remains of linoleum. They can be folded separately and calmly choose the best option for use on the farm.
Original decorative crafts
If, after assessing the situation, it turned out that the material remains are not particularly needed on the farm, or if it turned out to be catastrophically small, it is worth considering the option of using the product in one of the following ways:
- Making crafts. Here it all depends on imagination and creative talents. Some craftsmen make original covers for notebooks, slippers or even handbags from a small piece of linoleum. In extreme cases, you can limit yourself to the manufacture of coasters for hot dishes.
- Layout mosaic. If patience allows, then from the pieces of linoleum you can create real masterpieces that decorate the floors and walls in the bathroom, kitchen, hallway.
- Dressing.Pieces of material often cover the surfaces of tables, stools, even cabinets. This allows not only to increase the functionality of devices, but also to combine decor items in one room with a common idea.
In the end, you can do nothing at all with the leftovers, but leave them just in case to restore the flooring in problem areas. Linoleum wears out rather quickly at the joints of segments and at the edges, therefore, it needs regular decorative correction.
