Copper, which is part of bronze, provokes the start of oxidation processes, as a result of which the products are covered with a patina. Before you clean the bronze from color plaque, you need to learn that there are two types of it. A black or “noble” patina is formed as a result of the interaction of metal particles with oxygen. It protects the surface of the product from further oxidation and destruction. You don’t have to fight it, especially since it gives things from bronze a more elegant look.

The danger to the condition of the metal is a green or "wild" patina. As a consequence of exposure to bronze in a humid environment, it gradually destroys the metal, provoking the formation of recesses on its surface. Such a development of events can be prevented by conducting regular mechanical cleaning of products at home using soft flannel fabric.

Effective methods for the restoration of bronze products using natural products

If preventive methods were ignored or did not help, you will have to conduct a more intensive cleaning of items. You do not need to contact professionals for this. Even at home, there are many drugs that can quickly and carefully clean the surface of bronze from harmful plaque.

Chicory powder

• Chicory. We take the powdered form of the product, dilute with cool water until a paste resembling batter is obtained. We apply the product on the surface of the bronze and gently rub it with a soft brush. We rinse the item under clean water and dry it with napkins.

Tip: Regardless of what type of exposure is used in the process of cleaning bronze, after manipulation it is necessary to remove all traces of moisture from the metal surface. Otherwise, the problem will return very soon. In addition, it is necessary to regularly monitor the air humidity indicator at home and, if necessary, adjust it.

Various bronze items

• Peas (not instant). If the bronze surface is covered not with a green coating, but with a thick layer of dust and is laden with flies, then high-quality cleaning is achieved by boiling the product in peas. We lay out the food product in the pan, place the bronze object there, fill everything with water and put on fire. The mass must be boiled for two hours. After that we take out the product, transfer it to a container with warm water, wipe it with a soft brush and dry it.
• Lemon juice and soda. The approach will return the lost luster to the bronze jewelry and figurines. First, wash the item with warm water, removing coarse dirt and dust. Then from the juice and soda we make a thick but moist paste, apply it to the metal. We take a soft sponge or brush and begin to process the stained surface, making circular movements. After that, hold the object under a layer of paste for another 20 minutes, wash and rinse.
• Salt, flour and vinegar. I wash the bronze product in warm water and dry it. Mix the flour with salt in equal proportions, dilute the powder with vinegar to obtain a thick porridge. We put the product on the metal, rub it with a dry rag. So we repeat several times, after which we again apply the paste and leave it for half an hour. Wash off the mass with water and rub the item with a dry cloth.

Bronze coins in solution

For regular prophylactic polishing of bronze at home, it is recommended to use white toothpaste without additives. We put it on the product and rub it with a brush, napkin or soft-cloth.

Rules for cleaning bronze with household chemicals

The use of these funds should be resorted to only in the case of severe pollution on the metal or the absence of the effect of natural products.

• Acetone. Wet the cotton pad in the solution and completely wipe the product. We change the tool as often as possible. We carry out the manipulation until the white discs remain clean after touching the bronze.

Oxalic acid

• Oxalic acid. It is used only for deep cleaning of bronze. In five liters of cool water we breed half a glass of oxalic acid. In the resulting solution, we soak the contaminated product, observing its darkening. We take out the item and rinse under running water, rubbing it with a soft cloth.
• Ammonia. It is best used for processing very small items, such as coins or jewelry. Pour the product into a small container, place the same product coated with plaque. The item must be completely immersed in liquid. After a few minutes, we pull out a bronze thing with tweezers and rinse under water. Then we wipe, dry and, if necessary, repeat the approach.

Only strict adherence to dosages and sequence of actions guarantees the desired result. Despite the absolute safety of these funds, it is better to entrust the work with very expensive and delicate items to professionals.
