Can filtered water be boiled?
Content:
In any nutrient fluid, microorganisms begin to multiply over time. It is necessary to boil filtered water if it stands in the tank for more than 7 hours. Filtration removes liquid from harmful impurities, makes it lighter and more transparent. However, various bacteria and viruses are eliminated only by some types of filters and boiling. In fact, filtering and boiling are two fundamentally different ways of purifying water, which have their own advantages and disadvantages.
What gives filtering?
Filters are devices that purify liquids by straining. There are several varieties:
- Mechanical. They purify water by trapping harmful impurities on granular material (sand, gravel, etc.). They are mainly used to remove suspended particles - silt, soil, sand.
- Sorption. The role of the sorbent is most often played by coal. Water passes through the barrier; as a result, rust, insoluble organic matter, lead, arsenic and other particles larger than 10 micrometers disappear from it.
- Bactericidal. Silver filters are used to remove bacteria and costly ultraviolet disinfection. The latter are considered more effective and, among other things, clean water from viruses.
- Membrane They pass water through the smallest pores and purify almost all harmful substances, bacteria, and impurities.
The type of filter is selected depending on the quality of the water and the nature of the pollution. Some better cope with impurities of sand, silt, others effectively disinfect. Membrane filtration cleans up everything at once, but also removes useful minerals.
What gives boiling?
The most affordable and common method of water purification in everyday life was and remains boiling. According to the rules, it must be boiled for 3-15 minutes, and then given time to cool and settle. What does it give?
- Destroys bacteria and viruses (not all).
- It softens water, converting hardness salts to an insoluble state - scale.
- Eliminates dissolved gases - chlorine and others.
However, boiling has many disadvantages. For example, under the influence of high temperatures, chlorine forms toxic compounds from tap water. Also, with this cleaning method, almost all oxygen disappears from the liquid. Boiling does not eliminate rust, sand and many other impurities.
When should boil filtered water?
Filtration is today considered the best way to purify water. If the filter is selected correctly, it is not necessary to boil it additionally. Except for one case - if filtered water costs 7 hours or more. At this time, microorganisms begin to multiply in it, especially if the container is in the sun. It is better to boil such water before drinking.
It also makes sense to think about boiling the owners of mechanical and sorption filters that are ineffective against viruses and bacteria.
What harm can be caused by boiling filtered water?
Boiling as a cleaning method in itself causes controversy. Many scientists call boiled water "dead", devoid of all good. It cannot be used for an aquarium. It is unnatural for living organisms.
But in some polluted areas boiling is dictated by necessity. Even if disinfecting stations are operating, the condition of the water pipes leaves much to be desired - tap water will pose a health hazard. It is especially important to boil raw water before drinking.
As for boiling filtered water, the harm from the procedure is hardly greater than from boiling ordinary raw water. Perhaps it will be less beneficial for health due to low saturation with useful minerals. But if disinfection is dictated by necessity, then it is better to resort to it.
In order to avoid harm from boiled water, you need to follow 3 simple rules: regularly clean the kettle from limescale, do not boil water twice or too long.
So, for the purification of water, installing the right kind of filter is enough. This eliminates the need to boil it. Of course, it is not necessary to collect and store it for a long time, because after a while the microorganisms colonize the liquid. You need to drink fresh filtered water. But if there is only typed or you need to make tea, you can resort to boiling. Such a liquid will be less useful, but will not bring harm.
But how to drink tea after the filter - if it does not need to be boiled?
