How to choose a brush for suede and nubuck?
Natural suede and nubuck are 2 types of leather with pile. In the first case, the villi are usually longer, and in the second, shorter. As you know, any hairiness attracts dust. It settles deep in the skin, and with a slight movement of a rag or sponge it cannot be removed. Moreover, friction on suede and nubuck bald spots appear, and the product deteriorates forever.
For care you need a special brush. It should have sufficient rigidity in order to raise the pile and remove pollution from it. It is important that the surface is not damaged. And for processing hard-to-reach spots and eliminating dried mud, it is good to use a ribbed ledge or a pointed edge.
What a nubuck and suede brush looks like:
- contains synthetic pile with an insert from brass wire;
- has rubber teeth - an eraser;
- in the triple brush there is an additional protrusion (rib) for effective cleaning of the seams and the area at the sole.
You can find this useful device in any self-respecting shoe store or in the household department next to shoe creams. A worthy representative is the Dividik brush with three types of surfaces for the care of suede and nubuck.
How to use - 3 rules
After acquiring a faithful assistant, it is important to begin to figure out how to properly clean their shoes. There are 3 rules:
- The surface is always cleaned in one direction - against the pile. Do not brush back and forth or make circular movements.
- If the shoe material is suede or nubuck, you need to clean it only when dry. Wet material may deteriorate.
- Shoes need to be cleaned daily. Every time after the street brush away dust with a brush so that it does not eat.
With a special triple brush you can clean not only shoes, but also sheepskin coats, other clothes, nubuck and suede bags.
Which side to clean suede, and which - nubuck?
A device with a triple surface is most popular, it is chosen most often. But many have a logical question: which side of the brush to clean suede, and which - nubuck? We will consider each of them in turn.
- The side with nylon pile and brass wire is designed for fleecy coating. This is mainly suede, but there is also a long-nosed nubuck. The metal bristles raise the leather fluff, as a result the shoes are carefully cleaned of dust, stains, glossy areas are aligned.
- The rubber side (or rather rubber) is ideal for a nubuck surface, but can also be used for suede. Like an eraser, it erases dirt and small scratches. In addition, the brush gently polishes the noble skin, while maintaining its velvety and matte shine.
- The ribbed protrusion is designed to cleanse dirt from seams, zippers, and small decorative details. Very comfortably!
How to replace the brush?
Without a doubt, it is more convenient and efficient to clean suede and nubuck shoes with a special brush. But if she suddenly was not at hand, she will be replaced:
- a steam cleaner or a pot of boiling water - just hold your shoes over the steam, and then go with a regular brush (or a napkin, sponge);
- rye bread crust - a folk remedy for cleaning suede (with a crust you need to lightly rub a dirty place);
- stationery eraser (used to clean nubuck);
- sticky roller or paper tape - help get rid of dust on suede.
From strong impurities, a soap solution with ammonia helps well. In 300 ml of water you need to dissolve a teaspoon of shampoo, measure 100 ml and add 1 tablespoon of ammonia. Then the solution is applied with a soft brush to the stain and after 5 minutes it is washed off with a sponge. It remains to wipe the shoes with a napkin - and it will shine clean!
Suede and nubuck products are elegant, but require careful care. Improper cleaning and carelessness will put them in a state of disrepair very soon. Remember the simple rules and use a special brush - nubuck and suede will thank you with a beautiful appearance!
