Note for coffee users: is it possible to pour coffee grounds into the sink and toilet bowl?

Although plumbers do not recommend pouring coffee grounds into the sink, lovers of an invigorating drink regularly get rid of it in this way. The result is deplorable - in the drainage system, blockages continually occur. However, if you pour out coffee sediment into the sink once, nothing bad will happen.

Coffee grounds in the sink

Causes and consequences

Getting thick in the drain is fraught with two problems at once:

  • Insoluble particles accumulate in the siphon (it is also called the knee). Contacting with other wastes that are washed into the sink - food residues, and especially with drops of fat - they form a dense, viscous and viscous substance. Over time, it becomes more and more, and at one not-so-wonderful moment, it completely turns into a kind of cork, interfering with the outflow of water. After this, the siphon must be disassembled and cleaned.
  • A sleeping coffee brew, which for some reason did not stay in the siphon, settles on the walls of the pipes. Then the already described process takes place - fat and other kitchen sewage help the particles to gain a foothold in the new “habitat”. Each subsequent portion of the thickening contributes to the thickening of this layer and, accordingly, the narrowing of the inner lumen of the pipe. Sooner or later it will become critically small and will not allow water to go into the sewer. It is worth noting that the speed, and indeed the probability of an increase in the sedimentary layer, depends on the material the pipe is made of - cast iron is rougher than plastic, so the process is faster.

If you can wash the siphon yourself (it is unscrewed and put in place quite easily), then the pipe will have to be cleaned by a specialist. Moreover, sometimes the growths on the walls are so solid that there is no way to get rid of them. In this case, it is possible to restore the functionality of the drainage system only in one way - by replacing the pipe.

Toilet flush button

Safe disposal of coffee grounds

The easiest option is to pour the coffee brew into the toilet. Firstly, the diameter of the pipe connected to this plumbing device is 110 mm (the drain pipe that comes from the sink in the kitchen has a width of only 50 mm). And secondly, the distance from the drain hole to the riser is extremely small - thick does not have time to settle on the walls. However, despite these advantages, you can’t leave the thick leaves in the toilet for a long time - you need to flush the water right away.

There are alternative ways to use rainfall that remains after brewing coffee.

Coffee body scrub

Body Scrub

Coffee grounds are a great helper in the fight against cellulite. If you use a scrub made from it twice a month, you will soon notice that the skin is freshened, tightened, became more elastic, and irregularities began to smooth out. With more frequent use, the effect is faster.

Coarse and medium ground coffee is suitable for scrub. After brewing, the residue remaining at the bottom of the Turks is laid out on a paper towel and dried. So that the solid particles do not scratch the skin, but massage it, you need to mix the coffee "dust" with a component that provides gliding, for example with honey or vegetable oil (coconut, olive). You can also add sugar - it enhances the scrubbing properties. Such a mixture is prepared immediately before use.

Adding coffee grounds to an indoor plant pot

Component for acidic soil mixtures

Dried thick can be added to the soil when planting indoor and even outdoor plants that need acidic soil.In addition to changing the pH, coffee loosens the earth and promotes its breathability.

Coffee ground sachet

Odor absorber

With the help of a sleeping coffee brew, it is easy to get rid of unpleasant odors:

  • in a separate room (for example, in the kitchen or bathroom);
  • in fridge;
  • in closed shoes.

To do this, it is enough to fill any container (or several containers) of suitable size and appearance with a thick one, and then place them in the right places. Coffee will absorb the “alien” smell and at the same time exude its pleasant aroma.

You can put the thick in shoes by wrapping them in a piece of thin cotton material or a paper towel.

Coffee Dyed Fabric

Dye for fabric

If you want to paint a white canvas in beige or light brown, coffee grounds will come in handy. To do this, it will have to be brewed again. The result will depend on the concentration of the solution - the more saturated it is, the darker the tone of the tissue will be.

Coffee Scrub Soap

Ingredient for Homemade Soap

When cooking bath soap (it does not matter, from scratch or from the finished base), you can add dry coffee residues to the soap mass. Each time during bathing, small pieces of grains will scrub the skin and do micromassage. It is important not to overdo it - if the soap contains a lot of additives, it becomes too fragile.

From the foregoing, we can conclude that pouring coffee grounds into the sink is not worth it because of the risk of blockages in the sewer pipes. The toilet is much more suitable for this purpose, however, you will have to spend a lot of water to wash away the coffee that has been drunk. Those who do not want to risk the operability of the drainage system in their apartment should filter the precipitation from the Turk through a fine strainer - what remains in it can be thrown into the garbage bag along with other food waste or used for other purposes.

    Only urine and feces should enter the sewers.

    5 years I dump coffee grounds in the kitchen sink, everything is fine. And even if something gets clogged, I’ll clean it with a cable and no problems. This moronic article has already been copied from each other for about 2 years.
