The means by which the mattress can be cleaned of urine
On average, mattresses are cleaned no more than 1-2 times a year, and usually the procedure is limited to using a vacuum cleaner. If the product needs to be cleaned more thoroughly, for example, to get rid of traces of urine and an unpleasant odor characteristic of them, not only physical and mechanical effects are used, but also aggressive chemicals.
The complexity of the approach is that even if it is possible to remove stains from the surface of the material, it is not so easy to remove the liquid that has saturated the inner layers of the mattress. In some cases, only professional cleaning helps, but first try to clean the product at home.
Important rules for mattress care that are often neglected
Profile processing that can eliminate urine stains from the surface of the mattress will only help if the fabric itself is not covered with a layer of dust or greasy plaque. Lack of proper regular care for a functional item affects its condition and in some cases greatly complicates the cleaning process. In these cases, the only solution is dry cleaning.
In order to clean the fabric of the product and its filler from dust, greasiness, mold and dust mites, it is necessary to regularly carry out the following manipulations:
- A cleaning vacuum cleaner or steam cleaner is ideal for collecting dust. It not only provides surface treatment of the mattress, but also helps to get rid of ticks, returns freshness to the product.
- Cleaning the fabric from spilled drinks, traces of food and other resistant ridges should be carried out with special stain removers. Fabric upholstered furniture products can handle these problems no worse than dry cleaning
Tip: It is not recommended to wash the product under any circumstances. If the situation is such that the functional device is soiled very often and it takes hours of free time to clean it, then it is better to wrap it with thin polyethylene. In this case, traces of urine, an unpleasant odor and dirt will need to be removed only with a sheet.
- It is easiest to remove fat and grease stains with ammonia or ethyl alcohol. You just need to rub the contaminated area and let it dry.
- With traces of mold, which often appears with regular contact of urine on the mattress tissue and its subsequent processing, a weak vinegar solution copes well. We clean the surface and then dry it in the sun.
When working with spots of an indeterminate nature, you should not take risks using highly specialized means. Before you get rid of the formation, you need to spray a weak soap solution from the spray bottle on it and cover it with a cloth from a well-absorbing cloth. The problem will either go away or give a specific smell, thanks to which it will be possible to establish the nature of the pollution.
Tools to help quickly remove traces of urine from the mattress
Cleaning the product with the formation of spots of urine on its surface should be carried out immediately. If the liquid dries, it will be difficult to get rid of the consequences in the form of a persistent smell.
Dry cleaning is not useful if you proceed as follows:
- Fresh, still damp stains should be cleaned with a foam solution of liquid soap or dishwashing detergent. We apply the foam directly to the pollution and after a few minutes we remove the moisture with dry wipes.
- A fresh stain can be cleaned with gruel made from lemon juice (but not diluted acid) and small table salt. With the mixture we rub the problem spot on the mattress and wait at least two hours. Then we collect the remains of the composition, which absorbed moisture and odor, with dry wipes.
- A solution of vinegar helps to get rid of persistent aroma no worse than dry cleaning. In a glass of water we take two tablespoons of vinegar. We spray the product over the stain or rub it directly into the area from which the unpleasant odor emanates. You do not need to clean it, just wait until the fabric dries. If necessary, we make another approach.
After the surface has been cleaned of unwanted formations, the product must be ventilated in fresh air. The best effect is hanging the product in frost. In the summer, the problem area can be hung or covered with dry ice cubes wrapped in permeable fabric.
