How can you quickly and efficiently remove a stain on a leatherette?
Content:
Leatherette items will look like new for a long time if you provide them with quality and regular care. In addition, each housewife should know how to remove stains and spots from a rather capricious surface.
Many women face difficulties in this area, as persistent formations with gentle means are not so easy to remove, and aggressive substances adversely affect the quality of the material. In fact, everything is not so hopeless. You just need to know which products deal with which type of stains best, and which reagents should be discarded altogether.
Leatherette Cleaning Recommendations
There are several rules for working with faux leather items, compliance with which will allow you to quickly and accurately remove fresh spots and organize full regular surface care if necessary:
- The optimal tool for everyday care of leatherette products are wet wipes. It is with their help that it is recommended to remove dust and fine impurities from the surface. In some cases, they help get rid of fresh spots.
- It is strictly forbidden to scrape away dried up stains or scrub them with the help of preparations containing petroleum products.
- Do not try to remove contamination from leatherette, using solvents, alkalis and strong acids. It is not recommended to use solutions for washing dishes or processing plumbing in everyday life.
- In order to prepare the spots for further processing, experienced housewives are advised to moisten them with ordinary soapy water or water with the addition of a small amount of ammonia.
In general, the removal of contaminants is best taken immediately after they are detected. Only in this case will a minimum mechanical impact be required, which usually leads to rapid wear of the surface of the products.
Stain removal depending on the type of soiling
For high-quality and gentle removal of stains from things made of leatherette, it is recommended to use not universal approaches, but narrowly focused means. This will not only achieve the desired result, but also not affect the color, texture, density of the material.
- Blood stains. If the formations are fresh, you should try to wipe them off with a cloth dampened in cold water. Dried contaminants should be thoroughly moistened with 3% hydrogen peroxide applied to a cotton pad and left for a couple of minutes. The dirt will dissolve and you only need to wipe the surface clean. Old spots are removed in the same way, but it is better to use a mild soap solution with the addition of a few drops of 5% ammonia.
- Alcoholic drinks, fatty sauces. In this case, soapy water with the addition of vinegar (no more than a tablespoon of caustic product) per glass of water will be the best solution.
Tip: Faux leather does not like hot water and exposure to hot steam. The use of steam generators or attempts to soak the surface of the spots with boiling water can adversely affect the quality of the material, change its color.
- Plasticine, resin, chewing gum. Traces of them can be removed with ethyl alcohol, the main thing is to wet the surface more and rub less.
- Fruit and vegetable juices, preserves, preserves. Here you will need a soap solution, but with 10% ammonia or citric acid, previously diluted in water.
- Coffee, chocolate, tea. On the stains you just need to apply a thick foam obtained by whipping the soap composition. After all the bubbles burst, gently surface with a three damp cotton pad and rinse thoroughly with clean water several times so that there are no stains.
- Cream, oil, lipstick. Minor contaminations are amenable to using a soap solution. To clean a large area, you will have to use turpentine or ethyl alcohol. At the same time, we do not just wet the formations, but collect them, acting from the periphery to the center.
- Nail polish. Even stain-free spots can be easily removed by nail polish remover without acetone and other aggressive reagents.
- Oil paint. First, the surface is treated with turpentine oil. After the main dirt has come off, we use a soap solution, and then a large amount of clean water. If necessary, repeat the approach.
- Ink from a ballpoint pen. The most common table salt will help here. It’s good if it’s shallow, otherwise you can scratch the material. The product is added to the soap solution, which is applied to the pollution. On top, for fidelity, you can pour more salt and leave for several hours. Then we remove the whole composition and wipe the leatherette with clean water.
In cases where the type of stain is not entirely clear, cleaning should begin with a normal soap solution. If the approach does not help, gradually add auxiliary components, starting with the most sparing (soda, salt) and moving on to more aggressive ones (alcohol, turpentine).
How to clean faux leather in light shades?
Most accurately you need to work with products of light colors. If wet wipes do not help, try to remove the pollution in one of the following ways:
- Lemon juice. We take fresh lemon, cut it in half, squeeze juice into the container, filter the liquid. In it, we soak a cotton pad, wring it and apply it to a contaminated surface. Hold for at least 20 minutes, every three minutes dripping a few drops of juice on the surface of the disk. Then remove the cotton swab and slightly three spots with a soft damp sponge, rinse everything with clean water.
- Milk. When the contamination is superficial, rub it thoroughly with milk at room temperature. If this is not enough, add lemon juice to the milk and repeat the manipulation.
- Citric acid (acetic acid). In half a glass of water, we dilute half a teaspoon of citric acid or a teaspoon of table vinegar. The resulting solution is wiped several times, but not three spots.
- Ammonia. For 2 parts of slightly warm water we take 1 part of ammonia and half a teaspoon of glycerin, knead well. We apply the composition to the pollution and wait until it dries. Then we wash it off with clean water, wipe it with a cloth and, if necessary, repeat the manipulation.
After the surface is finally cleaned, it must be wetted repeatedly with soft, dry wipes to remove the liquid as much as possible. If you leave the leatherette to dry on its own, it can become denser and dry, which will immediately affect its appearance.
