Can I wash car covers in a washing machine?
Content:
Wiping car covers in a washing machine is a tempting idea: you won’t need to take them to the car dry cleaner and pay regularly for it. But can this be done? Yes, it is possible if the covers are made of fabric, eco-leather or tapestry. It will be necessary to carefully consider the parameters of machine wash, but it is not prohibited. If the covers in your car's interior are leather or fur, you will have to choose a different cleaning method.
Leather
Cases of leather and leatherette in the machine do not erase. They are treated with sprays and creamy formulations purchased at an automotive parts store. These compounds are applied circularly, waiting for several minutes, then wiped with a microfiber cloth. A second, dry rag is cleaned to a shine, completing the procedure. After this, the machine must be properly ventilated to remove the chemical odor.
Eco leather
Eco-leather covers are washable. There are a number of rules:
- Choose a delicate mode and a minimum of turns, using special shampoos for washing.
- Chlorine is not used.
- Powders are banned because they leave micro-scratches - and eco-leather loses its appearance.
- Rinse out twice.
- Spin is done manually; it is better to let the product drain naturally and to dry it out without direct sunlight.
Wool
To wash covers made of natural wool, you need to enable the delicate mode. Do not use too hot water: the coat will “sit down”, products will decrease in size.
Special cleaning products for natural wool products are needed:
- It is better to use gel, since the powder is rinsed harder and more aggressive, rolls wool fibers.
- Necessarily need air conditioning: it not only pleasantly refreshes, but also makes the wool softer to the touch, smoothes the villi, and improves the appearance.
If there are foam inserts on the covers, you will have to refuse washing in the machine. Even with careful use, the foam will break up.
Velours
Velor is capricious enough, and in order to wash it correctly, you must follow the rules:
- Velor covers are usually soaked. This is due to the fact that they are very dirty, absorb a lot of dust, and in the machine they need to be washed at a temperature of 30 degrees, using a delicate mode. When washing in the normal mode, the velor is deformed, “shrinks” or, conversely, can stretch.
- You need to use delicate detergents, preferably gel-like or in capsules, since the powder is likely to leave streaks.
- Rinse out at least 2 times.
- Automatic spin is not recommended, it is better to manually spin.
- You need to dry away from the sun, as the velor quickly fades.
Tapestries
With washing tapestry covers, usually no difficulties. Wash them delicately using a liquid detergent gel. It is better not to take the powder: it is eaten, poorly rinsed. Set the minimum number of revolutions to avoid shrinkage. Dried in the air, avoiding the sun.
the cloth
Fabric materials are the most unpretentious. However, if they are very dirty, it will be difficult to remove all the dirt in the machine: it is eaten into a coarse cloth, so the product needs to be soaked.
You can prepare a composition of soap and water, spread the covers on a hard surface and rub the solution with a rough brush, cleaning the stains. Then it can already be sent to the washing machine and achieved using washing powder.
Rinse better twice. Air dry as usual.
Torn products are washed in a special mesh or manually, otherwise the cover will “spill over”.
Synthetic products are easy to wash. You need to select the "Synthetics" mode. Wash as usual using powder. You can add any air conditioning. Rinsing, drying are also performed in the "Synthetics" mode.
Fur
Fur covers cannot be washed at all, and even more so in a typewriter. Pile inevitably deforms, rolls.
Ready-made dry formulations are needed ("home" options - semolina or starch):
- Loose mixture is applied and combed against pile.
- Then the product is shaken.
If there are serious spots, you can’t do it yourself. It is necessary to call in to a car dealership to use dry cleaning services.
To make the covers less dirty, you should wear special T-shirts on them. They prevent early wear and are much easier to wash.
What is the temperature for washing covers?
Material | Degrees |
---|---|
Velours | 30 |
the cloth | 70 |
Tapestry | 45 |
Synthetics | 30–45 |
Eco leather | 30 |
Covers from ecoskin, velor, synthetics are not ironed. Fabric, tapestry can be ironed from the wrong side in the "Cotton" mode.
Do not forget that washing machines are designed for a certain weight. If the cover is heavy or sewn from a material that absorbs a lot of moisture, be sure to check whether your machine will withstand such a wash.
Some car owners prefer to wash covers in specialized salons. This procedure is not cheap, especially since such products are often contaminated. In order to wash the car covers in the washing machine, you do not need to make a lot of effort. It is enough to know only some rules and not to neglect them even in a hurry.
